In this session, we will cover the basic concept of Cloud Computing. Cloud Computing is a general term used to describe a new class of network-based computing that takes place over the Internet, we will also review the description of the essential characteristics, deployment modes, and service models that characterize cloud computing.
In Harvard Business Review May 2003 by Nicholas G. Carr Carr argued that in the future companies will purchase information technology as a utility service from outside suppliers.
The formal definition of Cloud Computing: Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction. This cloud model is composed of five essential characteristics, three service models, and four deployment models.
